Event Details

Sublime British-Australian jazz vocalist, Hetty Kate, returns from Paris to perform with her Quartet at Foundry 616, featuring some of Sydney’s best jazz musicians.

Vocalist Hetty Kate, described as “the real deal” and “one of the best swing vocalists on the current scene” (Will Friedwald – Author & Jazz Critic USA), was born in England, raised in Melbourne, and has been based in Paris since 2017. With a career spanning more than a decade, Hetty toured for many years with acclaimed Australian musician James Morrison and has performed on stages large and small from New Zealand to New York. With a huge repertoire, natural musicality, and a clear, sweet-sounding voice Hetty is sometimes compared to Stacey Kent, Peggy Lee or a young Ella Fitzgerald – yet approaches the music with a style entirely her own. It’s this quality along with her great love of the American Songbook that draws in audiences and musicians alike.

Hetty has performed at many premier jazz festivals internationally including the New York Winter Jazz Festival (USA), Sapporo International Jazz Festival (Japan), Ascona Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Prague Proms (Czech Republic), and the Cavell Leitch International Jazz Festival (NZ) as well as many others across Europe, Asia, and Australia. Her last album “Under Paris Skies” was released in 2019, and is the ninth release over her career. Career highlights include performing with eight symphonic orchestras, treading the boards as Ava Gardner in Eric McCusker’s original Australian stage production ‘Ava at the End of the World’, and singing for Spicks’n’Specks.

For this intimate Sydney concert on her first Australian tour in three years, Hetty has invited three celebrated musicians to join her, John Harkins on piano, Brendan Clarke on bass, and Andrew Dickeson on drums. Enjoy an evening of favourites from Hetty’s albums along with classics and curios from the American Songbook.
