HETTY KATE TRIO: Album launch – SPRING
Paris-based Australian jazz vocalist Hetty Kate presents songs from her newest release — a sparkling homage to the most effervescent of seasons, Spring. This album is the opening chapter of Jazz in Four Seasons, a four-album odyssey tracing the calendar year across different continents. Recorded in Prague with four of the city’s finest jazz musicians, this collection captures spring’s beauty through carefully curated standards from Duke Ellington, Tadd Dameron, Dave Brubeck, and more. It celebrates new life, renewal, and awakening — from tender songs that echo the first buds of spring to melodies that capture the dance of spring rain.
Joined by Matt Boden on piano and Hamish Houston on bass, Hetty will bring this musical portrait of spring to life with her imaginative song choice and the warmth and wit audiences have come to expect. As critic Eric Myers notes, ‘One rarely hears a repertoire of such quality.’ Join us for an intimate evening celebrating the season of new beginnings.

A take on Dave Brubeck
Experience the timeless magic of Dave Brubeck’s music brought to life by one of Australia’s finest pianists, Simon Tedeschi, as he dives into Brubeck’s most iconic works, from the mesmerising Take Five to the driving rhythms of Blue Rondo à la Turk.
Renowned for his dazzling technique, emotional depth and engaging stage presence, SIMON TEDESCHI is the perfect interpreter of Brubeck’s daring style — capturing its cool sophistication, rhythmic genius, and joyful improvisation.
As the Paul Desmond to Tedeschi’s Brubeck, the versatile multi-instrumentalist PAUL CUTLAN dazzles on alto saxophone, clarinet and more. A collaborator of rare depth, he’s performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Gurrumul, Lou Reed, Bobby Previte, Jim McNeely and Ólafur Arnalds. A world-class musician not to miss.
And completing the trio is CAMERON UNDY, one of Australia’s most respected bassists, guitarists and composers with a formidable career as a jazz bassist playing with all the luminaries from legends Paul Grabowsky to James Morrison.
This is more than a jazz concert — it’s a celebration of Brubeck’s revolutionary contribution to jazz, performed with passion and spontaneity, and the artists’ own tribute to Brubeck’s brilliance and distinctly classical aesthetic. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz fan or new to Brubeck’s sound, this performance promises to be unforgettable.

MOSTLY MOZART: MOZART & MARSEILLAISE
In the final Mostly Mozart of 2025, ANAM Artistic Director Paavali Jumppanen returns to direct a showcase of Mozart at his most collaborative.
Opening with a delightful rarity, Mozart’s sonatas for four-hands, these works, originally written to be performed with his sister Nannerl, are the ultimate depiction of playful competition and now live on as intimate conversations between instrumentalists.
The four-hands approach to music-making continues in ANAM Head of Piano Timothy Young’s arrangement of La Marseillaise – Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle’s National Anthem of France. A topic of regular debate, many scholars believe de Lisle’s patriotic song took inspiration from the march-like tune in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.25; a debate audiences can settle for themselves when Paavali and the ANAM Orchestra come together to perform the majestic composition. With Jumppanen’s extraordinary artistry, the moments of intimate dialogue between piano and orchestra are the perfect display of why this is considered the great composer’s grandest concerto.

HETTY KATE BASS² – Live at The Count’s
For Hetty’s concert at The Counts she is delighted to present her Quintet, Bass² – a distinctive jazz ensemble featuring two guitars and two double basses. The combination of more than one double bass in a jazz setting is unusual, yet echoes the spirit of classic albums such as ‘Super Bass,’ ‘Two Bass Hit,’ and ‘We Three.’ Similarly to the guitar, the double bass’s beautiful timbre occupies a distinct sonic space, offering a beautiful counterpoint to the human voice. And indeed, what could be better than one bass? For Hetty, the answer is two!
Traversing a sparkling repertoire of classics, curios and surprises you’ll find this quintet is infused with delight, as joy, playfulness and most of all friendship shine through. With celebrated Melbourne musicians, Sam Lemann and Craig Fermanis (guitars) and Ben Hanlon with Ben Robertson (double basses) this is a concert not to be missed.
