Following his sold-out ‘Bliss of Heaven’ album launch in April, celebrated Latin pianist/composer Daniel Rojas returns to Camelot with long-time collaborator, saxophonist Jay Byrnes. Let the soothing, sultry sounds of Piazolla’s Oblivion, Granados and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras take you on a sonic journey to Spain, Argentina and Brazil. With Rojas’ trademark exuberance matched by Byrne’s smooth sounds on alto, tenor and baritone sax, this is a perfect way to celebrate the holidays!
Chilean-born Australian Dr Daniel Rojas is an award-winning composer specialising in the rich and vibrant Latin American aesthetic as well as an outstanding pianist for Latin and tango music, known for stunning improvisations at the keyboard. Winning runner-up in the 2021 international Piazzolla Music Competition and critical acclaim for his recent album ‘Bliss of Heaven: music from the New World’ (Da Vinci Classics), Rojas is also director of composition at the University of Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music. Jay Byrnes is a pre-eminent figure in the Australian saxophone scene, renowned for his versatility and dynamic stage presence. An authority on the interpretation of Latin American music for the saxophone, Byrnes has written over 200 arrangements performed by local and international ensembles including the Nexas Quartet, Orquestra Portuguesa de Saxofones, The Four Baritones and The Sydney Saxophone Collective.
