2019 SYDNEY FESTIVAL
Seidler Salon Series: Elena Kats-Chernin
“Music and architecture come together in a series of concerts hosted in and around, and inspired by, the singular buildings of Australia’s most famous modernist architect, Harry Seidler.
Renowned Australian composer and pianist Elena Kats-Chernin performs works from her ARIA number one albums Butterflying and Unsent Love Letters, as well as live improvisations, responding to the Harry and Penelope Seidler House.
As one of Australia’s most vibrant and varied composers, Kats-Chernin has a prolific body of works for theatre, ballet, orchestra, chamber ensemble and piano. Full of energy, colour and movement, it’s no surprise that her compositions have been used in numerous ballet and theatre works.
Most memorably, Deep Sea Dreaming was broadcast to an audience of millions worldwide as part of the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games”.
“Kats-Chernin’s characteristic imaginative space might be likened to an old dance, heard in a surreal dream, interrupted by outbursts of outrageousness” – Sydney Morning Herald
